Escape

Here I am, watching a white butterfly
On the stairs of an emerald palace,
Here I am, on the way of escape.
Oh, you the invisible bird
In a cool fragrant nook
Of the green tower of seclusion,
Is your pure song
An awakening call for me
To break out of the dark prison
Of the Self?

My dear Friend and Daughter-in-Poetry, Joanne,

Since April 10th 2020, the most unfortunate date in my life, I have been living in isolation, with the tormenting sorrow of Pari's disappearance and the deteriorating condition of my blood cancer. On Saturday twentieth of April I will go to hospital for blood transfusion. All this time I did not have any good news for you. But today I have good photo for you. Recently I found the image of this lost moment of a fleeting happiness. Look at the photo and tell who they are.

With love and best wishes for you and your loving children,

Mahmud

Pari and Mahmud in the garden
both dressed in beige
his red shirt echoing, complementing, suggesting
the cascade of flowers
red on either side
red behind

Pari in the red shirt next time
above Katy and Jim
Christmas tree before the window
garden outside
Kave and Anja hovering, just out of sight

Dear Mahmud,
So happy to hear from you
I think of you every day, hope to see you
this pandemic keeps complicating the kids' wedding plans
fingers crossed we shall all meet in the near future again
in the Kianush garden
